Dana Johnson is the author of Elsewhere, California and Break Any Woman Down, which won the Flannery O’Connor Award for Short Fiction and was a finalist for the Hurston/Wright Legacy Award. Her work has appeared in the literary journals Slake, Callaloo, and The Iowa Review, among others, and anthologized in Shaking the Tree: A Collection of New Fiction and Memoir by Black Women,The Dictionary of Failed Relationships, and California Uncovered: Stories for the 21st Century. Born and raised in and around Los Angeles, California, she is an associate professor of English at the University of Southern California where she teaches literature and creative writing. She lives in downtown Los Angeles.
Peggy Dobreer has one full-length collection of poetry, In The Lake of Your Bones, released in March 2012 by Moon Tide Press. She loves to dance. Her poems can be found in Literary Angles, WordWright's Magazine, The Malpais Review, and L.A. Yoga Magazine among others.
Kate Maruyama's short fiction has appeared in Arcadia Magazine, Controlled Burn and the Stoneboat Journal. Her novel Harrowgate is upcoming from 47North. With Diane Sherlock, she founded Annotationnation.com, a site that looks at works of fiction in terms of craft. She lives, teaches, writes, cooks and eats in Los Angeles.
Xochitl-Julisa Bermejo is a teacher, poet, and native Angelino. She is the creator and curator of Beyond Baroque’s monthly reading series Hitched, a founding editor of The Splinter Generation, and was nominated for a 2010 Pushcart Award. Her work has been published in The Los Angeles Review, PALABRA, CALYX, as well as some online journals.
